Spring Break 2026 in Cleveland: Things to Do with Kids in Northeast Ohio

Spring Break is almost here, and if you're staying close to home this year, good news: you don't need a plane ticket or a packed suitcase to have an amazing week with your kids. Cleveland is full of places to explore, fresh air to breathe in, and yes, plenty of things that won't cost you a single dollar. Here's your go-to guide for Spring Break 2026 in Northeast Ohio, starting with all the free stuff.

Free Things to Do with Kids in Cleveland This Spring Break

Cleveland Museum of Art

It's free. Always. No asterisk, no "free day," no catch. CMA is one of those places you can visit a dozen times and still find something new, and spring is honestly one of the best times to go because the crowds are lighter and you can actually breathe. They also do free family activity days on the second Sunday of the month, so keep that on your radar too.

The Community Arts Center

Free hands-on art activities, diverse exhibits, and artist-led workshops on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. The first Sunday of the month is Family FUNday with special crafts, and parking is free too. It's the kind of place where kids actually get to touch and make things, which is the best kind of museum.

Rockefeller Park Greenhouse

This one is such a hidden gem and a perfect spring outing. The greenhouse is free, open year-round, and absolutely gorgeous when everything is in bloom. It's right near University Circle, so you can easily pair it with the Museum of Art or a walk through the Cultural Gardens and make a whole day of it. Pack a lunch, bring a blanket, and just enjoy the fact that spring is actually here.

Metroparks & Nature Centers

Spring might genuinely be the best time of year to be in the parks. Trails are waking up, waterfalls are running strong, and kids who have been cooped up all winter need this more than you do. The best part? Every single one of these is free to visit.

Cleveland Metroparks, Lorain County Metro Parks, the Nature Center at Shaker Lakes, and Lake Metroparks all have incredible trails, open green space, and that spring energy that just hits different after a long Ohio winter. Cuyahoga Valley National Park is also free to access and endlessly explorable. A few highlights: Whipps Ledges in Hinckley for sandstone ledges and hand-carved carvings from the 1940s, Brandywine Falls for one of the most beautiful waterfall hikes in the region, and the Towpath Trail for a great family bike ride. Wherever you are in Northeast Ohio, there is a park worth exploring within a few miles of you.

Libraries

Never sleep on your local library during spring break, no matter what part of Northeast Ohio you're in. Cleveland Public Library, Cuyahoga County Public Library, Euclid, Lakewood, Rocky River, Shaker, Twinsburg, and Westlake Porter all run programming, storytimes, and activities for kids. Check your branch's events calendar and grab a spot before they fill up.

And if you haven't been to Avon Lake's DiscoveryWorks yet, put it on the list. It's technically a library but feels like a whole play destination. Free, easy, and genuinely a great way to burn a rainy spring break morning.

Museums for All

If you receive SNAP benefits, the Museums for All program gets you deeply discounted or free admission to several participating museums across Northeast Ohio, including the Great Lakes Science Center, the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, and more. Huge win for families who want the museum experience without the full museum price tag. Click here for more info: Museums for All.
