Explore, Eat, Celebrate: Hispanic Heritage Month
Did you know that September 15th through October 15th is Hispanic Heritage Month? Basically means a whole month of music, flavor, and fun celebrating Hispanic and Latino cultures… And lucky us, Cleveland knows how to celebrate!
If you’ve ever met me, or my husband, or honestly, even our toddler - food is a huge part of who we are as a family. Here are some of our favorites:
Rincón Criollo: This is my favorite Puerto Rican food in the city. Their arroz con gandules always has me dancing in my seat.
La Plaza Taqueria: One of our favorite places to get tacos (we always get way too many and eat them all), plus we loving shopping at the Supermarket. Also, Lizzo ate here - so you know it’s legit.
Cilantro Taqueria: This is our other favorite taco place. My husband was beside himself when we first went and noticed they serve lengua.
Fiesta Jalapeños: If you’re looking for a classic Mexican restaurant, this one has been our go-to for well over a decade.
CentroVilla25: We absolutely love this latino market & food hall. If you haven’t been, it’s an absolute must! And bonus: there’s more than just food.
Plus some recommendations from family & friends:
El Arepazo y Pupuseria: “We don’t go there as much as I wish we would, but every time we do it’s amazing”
Caribe Bake Shop: “I love this one!”
In addition to the events below, if you’re into art, I recommend The Cleveland Museum of Art (reminder: it’s always free!). You can do a self-guided tour using this filtered list of Latine and Hispanic Artists or using this featured Latine & Hispanic Artists tour on the ArtLens App. Note: you have to have the ArtLens for that second one to open.
Cleveland’s Hispanic and Latino nonprofits keep the spirit going all year. Add one of these to your family’s give-back list:
Julia de Burgos Cultural Arts Center: Art, dance, and culture classes.
Esperanza, Inc.: Mentoring + scholarships for Latino students.
CentroVilla25: A brand-new community hub + Latin food market in Clark-Fulton.
Drop in, volunteer, or just spread the word.
Hispanic Heritage Month is a giant invitation to dance, taste, and learn together. Whether you hit up an event, try a local restaurant, or donate to a local nonprofit, you’re helping your kids see Cleveland’s rich cultures up close.
Tag @CLEfamilies if you join the fun. Let’s fill this month with music, flavor, and plenty of happy memories.
