Storytime with Kellie DuBay Gillis
Your Neighbor Wrote a Book (Two, Actually)
Kellie DuBay Gillis lives in Fairview Park, works as an environmental scientist, and spent 2025 publishing two picture books with two different major publishers. She's been wanting to visit The Wandering Lantern since the day we opened — and on April 18th, just two days before Earth Day, she finally comes to story time.
She'll be reading both books, and each one is its own world.
The Books
Big Bike, Little Bike (HarperCollins, illustrated by Jacob Souva) A warm, joyful story about the simple pleasure of riding bikes together — the big kid leading the way, the little one pedaling to keep up. Perfect for siblings, for new riders, and for anyone who remembers that feeling of wind and wheels and someone you love beside you.
If You Find a Fawn: A What-to-Do for Wild Wanderers (Disney's Planet Possible, illustrated by Wazza Pink) What should you do if you find a baby deer alone in the yard? Kellie's background as an environmental scientist comes through here — this is a genuinely useful, beautifully illustrated guide for curious kids who care about the animals around them.
What to Expect
Two storytimes in one — Kellie reads both books, so bring the whole family
Q&A — ask about what it's like to be a scientist AND an author, and what really happens when someone finds a fawn
Signing — get your copies signed by a real live neighbor
Books & More
Both Big Bike, Little Bike and If You Find a Fawn will be available to purchase. With Earth Day on April 22nd, these make a wonderful gift for the nature-loving kid in your life.

Jim Gill is a musician and author with unique credentials among children's artists. Jim is a child development specialist, completing his graduate studies in child development at the Erikson Institute of Chicago with a special emphasis on the study of play. For this reason, each of Jim's recordings and books is created as an opportunity for playful interactions between a child and a caring adult. Anyone who has experienced one of Jim's family concerts knows that rather than performing for the children and parents, Jim leads them to sing and play together.
Jim has released ten award-winning CDs of music play for young children that are favorites in family rooms, classrooms and playrooms. Jim is also the author of two children's books. A Soup Opera is a silly sing-along opera inspired by concerts that Jim performs with symphony orchestras. His first book, May There Always Be Sunshine, continues to inspire children from across the country to share their heartfelt wishes and extraordinary illustrations in community VIDEO book projects that Jim carries out with libraries, school districts and other community organizations.
