America 250 Sound Bites of Summer Mr. Jeff & Disco Inferno

On Sunday evenings, and 1 Sunday Afternoon the sweet sounds of music and friendly greetings fill the air at the South Central Park at the Gazebo with the North Ridgeville Parks & Recreation Summer Concert Series.

The FREE concerts have a variety of performers appropriate for all age groups. All are invited to bring a lawn chair or blanket and enjoy this traditional summer pastime.

2:30pm: Dance to Evolve Demonstration
3:00pm: Cheernastics Demonstration
5:00pm: Disco Inferno

Papa Sal's Kitchen and Big House BBQ Food trucks, Bone-Appetite Creamery, Rockin Refreshments and a Beer Garden, which will open at 5pm, will be available for those in attendance for refreshments.

trucks while enjoying the musical talents of the

Start your engines for one of the region’s most beloved Father’s Day traditions at Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens!

This year’s theme “A Century of Mopar”, celebrates the legacy of iconic muscle cars and automotive power through the decades. Car enthusiasts will enjoy an impressive lineup of classic and specialty vehicles on the Great Meadow, plus exciting new additions including a Touch-A-Truck experience with the City of Akron. 

Two genuine Hollywood movie cars will be on display, chosen in the spirit of Ohio Goes to the Movies, a Signature Event of America 250-Ohio and this year's Mopar theme. We'll have the Nash Bridges Hero Car-1971 Plymouth 'Cuda, and the Fast & Furious 1973 Plymouth 'Cuda from Furious 7 on display right in front of the Manor House!

Included with your admission is access to our America 250 exhibition, The Families That Built Akron, offering a powerful look at the people and industries that shaped our region’s history.

INSTRUMENT DRIVE

We are partnering with Center for Arts Inspired Learning and Hungry for Music for an instrument drive.  CAL is seeking donations of acoustic guitars, violins, keyboards (excluding large pianos), and drums or percussion instruments, including specific drums such as djembe and timbau.  Hungry for Music will collect any additional instruments (excluding large pianos) folks are interested in donating to music education programs.

MUSEUM ADMISSION

This is a free community event that takes place outside on the Rock Hall’s Plaza. Event RSVP is for the outdoor event only, separate admission is required for the Museum. Museum admission is always free for Members and City of Cleveland residents through the CLE VIP program, and we provide deeply discounted admission for those with significant financial barriers through the Museums for All Program.

Many of the tractors, trucks and construction equipment that we use to keep your parks in tip-top shape will be parked onsite for hands-and-feet-on discovery by kids of all ages. Check back soon for a list of which vehicles will be on hand and touchable as it becomes available.

When onsite parking fills, fast and free school-bus-style shuttles will run from our overflow parking site at ASM International, 0.6 mile east of The West Woods on Route 87. Consider it another vehicle to touch on your trip!

Tree Planting

Join Holden Forests & Gardens for a ceremonial tree planting on Saturday, April 25 at the Holden Arboretum. Come by and learn more about the trees, where they came from, and why we chose them for their respected locations. Ethan Johnson, Plant Records Curator, will provide remarks and go in-depth about the newly planted Red Maple (Burgandy Bell), at noon at the peninsula on Lotus Pond.

Wildflower Garden, 10am-11am
Join Senior Horticulturist, Dawn Gerlica, for a walk among the wildflowers to look at native Ohio trees in the Myrtle S. Holden Wildflower Garden and learn about the habitats where they can be found.

Working Woods, 11:15am-12:15pm
Join the Working Woods Hub Manager, Becah Troutman, for a guided tour of the Working Woods Learning Forest, a demonstration site and living laboratory at The Holden Arboretum.

Arboretum South Loop, 12-1pm
Join one of our gardeners for a tour of the Display Garden! Learn about the fascinating history and folklore behind some of the Arboretum’s best specimens. This tour is welcome for people of any age and background!

Working Woods, 1pm-2pm
Join the Working Woods Hub Manager, Becah Troutman, for a guided tour of the Working Woods Learning Forest, a demonstration site and living laboratory at The Holden Arboretum.

Begin with a self-guided hike through the sugarbush, walk through our historical sugar-making stations, visit the sugarhouse, and wrap up your visit with a sample of our own maple syrup on a mini pancake.

- Food truck available on site while supplies last and weather permitting.
- Locally made maple candy will be for sale 3/$1.00 (cash only) while supplies last. 
- Rocky River Nature Shop will be on-site at Maple Grove each day during the event selling Ravine's Edge maple syrup, while supplies last. 8 oz. bottles are $12.50.

Follow the steps from collecting and boiling sap to producing maple syrup and candy. Discover how trees are tapped and see the tubing that connects the multiple taps together. Help gather sap from bucket taps and learn how to make maple syrup in your own backyard! Farmpark’s own maple syrup and candy will be for sale.
