Father’s Day Weekend | June 19–21, 2026
Theme: The Codfather – Sleeps with the Fishes!

Downtown Vermilion is going full mobster as our favorite events take on a legendary mafia twist, Crazy Craft Regatta/Race, Lighted Boat Event, Sandcastle Building Contest, and the Festival Parade, all inspired by the Codfather himself.

Expect a weekend filled with live music, incredible food vendors, arts & crafts, family fun, fireworks, and nonstop entertainment along the shores of Lake Erie and throughout Downtown Vermilion.

Medina Touch a Truck

Come explore trucks of all shapes and sizes, fire engines, school buses, police cars, and more! From 10 am – 1 pm, take a ride in the original Old Phoenix Stagecoach. Sensory–Friendly Hour from 9 am to 10 am for attendees who have difficulties with loud noises. There will be quiet music and no loud noises, such as revving engines, sirens, or horns.

Geauga Park District Touch-a-Truck

Get an up-close look at the vehicles and equipment of Geauga Park District in honor of America 250‘s Ohio MOVES: Transportation Month!

Many of the tractors, trucks and construction equipment that we use to keep your parks in tip-top shape will be parked onsite for hands-and-feet-on discovery by kids of all ages. Check back soon for a list of which vehicles will be on hand and touchable as it becomes available.

When onsite parking fills, fast and free school-bus-style shuttles will run from our overflow parking site at ASM International, 0.6 mile east of The West Woods on Route 87. Consider it another vehicle to touch on your trip!

American Elderberry Sambucus canadensis is an adaptable, native Ohio shrub. Its flowers attract many beneficial pollinators, and its fruit is favored by numerous songbirds. Limited quantity.

Tree Planting

Join Holden Forests & Gardens for a ceremonial tree planting on Saturday, April 25 at the Holden Arboretum. Come by and learn more about the trees, where they came from, and why we chose them for their respected locations. Ethan Johnson, Plant Records Curator, will provide remarks and go in-depth about the newly planted Red Maple (Burgandy Bell), at noon at the peninsula on Lotus Pond.

Tour Schedule

Wildflower Garden, 10am-11am
Join Senior Horticulturist, Dawn Gerlica, for a walk among the wildflowers to look at native Ohio trees in the Myrtle S. Holden Wildflower Garden and learn about the habitats where they can be found.

Working Woods, 11:15am-12:15pm
Join the Working Woods Hub Manager, Becah Troutman, for a guided tour of the Working Woods Learning Forest, a demonstration site and living laboratory at The Holden Arboretum.

Arboretum South Loop, 12-1pm
Join one of our gardeners for a tour of the Display Garden! Learn about the fascinating history and folklore behind some of the Arboretum’s best specimens. This tour is welcome for people of any age and background!

Working Woods, 1pm-2pm
Join the Working Woods Hub Manager, Becah Troutman, for a guided tour of the Working Woods Learning Forest, a demonstration site and living laboratory at The Holden Arboretum.

Remarkable Trees, 1pm-2pm
Join the Plant Records Curator, Ethan Johnson, for a tour or remarkable trees just a short distance from the Corning Library and Visitor Center. Also, questions about plants are most welcome!

Arbor Week Sneak Peek Tours
From the lab to the forest to the glasshouse—join us for a series of special opportunities to peek behind the scenes and engage with our plant and animal experts. Each tour will feature mission-related work through the lens of research, conservation, and stewardship. Learning something new is the perfect way to celebrate the lead up to Arbor Day! Free; registration required.

Read a book with a naturalist about how maple syrup is made, starting from the tree and ending at the breakfast table. Afterwards, take a short hike to look for some tapped trees.

Experience a decades-old tradition for yourself at Maple Grove Picnic Area and learn all about the process of maple sugaring. Begin with a self-guided hike through the sugarbush, walk through our historical sugar-making stations, visit the sugarhouse, and wrap up your visit with a sample of our own maple syrup on a mini pancake.

- Food truck available on site while supplies last and weather permitting.
- Locally made maple candy will be for sale 3/$1.00 (cash only) while supplies last. 
- Rocky River Nature Shop will be on-site at Maple Grove each day during the event selling Ravine's Edge maple syrup, while supplies last. 8 oz. bottles are $12.50.

Visitors enjoy a wagon ride to the Woodland Center to witness the process of producing maple syrup as sap is collected from 1,000 taps through a network of tubing and pumps. Follow the steps from collecting and boiling sap to producing maple syrup and candy. Discover how trees are tapped and see the tubing that connects the multiple taps together. Help gather sap from bucket taps and learn how to make maple syrup in your own backyard! Farmpark’s own maple syrup and candy will be for sale.

Pancake Breakfast
Pancakes served 10 am to 3 pm in the café. Adults $11 Youth $8
Breakfast includes: Pancakes • Potatoes • Bacon • Sausage with Farmpark maple syrup
Beverages $2: Coffee • Hot chocolate • Milk • Juice box • Can of soda • Bottled water

Stop by to hand-feed the chickadees. We will supply the black oil sunflower seeds and instructions that help make this experience one to remember. Hand-feed during designated program times only. Hand washing/sanitizer required after hand-feed.

Meet the skilled community professionals who operate them, learn how they work, and enjoy a hands-on experience that’s fun and educational for all ages.

To be held at LCCC Parking Lot 3, 1005 Abbe Rd. N, Elyria, OH 44035. RAIN or SHINE.
